Evaleeka Durbin was born in Tazewell, Tennessee on January 5, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Charles Virgil Durbin and the late Athene (Schultz) Durbin. She married the love of her life, David Hance, in Newport, Tennessee on August 27, 1942. From this union came the birth of five children.
Evaleeka worked as a seamstress for La-Z-Boy for many years and also for Chrysler for 17 years. She was considered a master seamstress; there was nothing she couldn't sew. She was a proud member of the UAW Local 12 in Toledo and had volunteered for the Marcy Kaptur Representative Campaign. Evaleeka was a strong willed, independent person who was a real survivor. Evaleeka loved to dance and was talented enough to enter dance competitions. She had even taught dance at the Bill Miller Dance Studio in Toledo.
Evaleeka Hance age 84 of Monroe passed away at 6:15pm, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at The Lutheran Home. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her husband, David; a cousin, William Guy Harrell, Jr.; and a great-great-grandchild.
To cherish her memory she leaves behind three daughters: Frances (Robert) Strimble of Monroe, Brenda Didario of Dandridge, TN, and Linda (Richard) Ramsey of Morristown, TN; two sons: David S. (Linda) Hance, Jr. of Monroe and John Allen (Terry) Hance of New Boston; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place with Southern Michigan Services in Livonia. A private memorial service, with Sister Kate O'Brien officiating, has been planned. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 394-5185 was entrusted with her arrangements.
