Obituary of Sandra Spain

Sandra Kay Kinney was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 20, 1957. She was the daughter of the late Buddy Eugene Kinney and Mary Ann (Dombrowski) Kinney Wright. She married Richard Kenneth Spain on January 26, 1979 in Decatur, Alabama.
Sandi was a homemaker and served several churches with Kenny as a ministry team. In 1981, they took their first church together, the Atlanta Bible Church. They then moved to Memphis for three years while Kenny attended seminary. In 1984, the couple moved to Cadillac and started Evergreen Baptist Church. In 1991, they moved to Conway, South Carolina and Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and then served several other congregations moving in 1999 to Sumpter, South Carolina to head Hickory Road Baptist Church. They settled in Monroe in 2001 and became members of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
Sandi loved children and often served as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed listening to Christian music and attending worship services. Sandi also enjoyed animated Disney movies, sewing and quilting, and loved arts and crafts such as figurines, painting, and ceramics. She also liked collecting seashells, especially at Myrtle Beach.
Sandi, age 54, stepped through the gates of heaven and into the arms of her beloved Lord Jesus Monday, July 23, 2012. She was a ten year resident of the Lutheran Home, and under the care of Heartland Hospice. Her passing was preceded by father: Eugene; step-father: Bob Wright; and maternal grandparents: Clifford and Evelyn Dombrowski.
To cherish her memory she leaves her husband of thirty-three years: Kenny of Monroe; her mother: Mary Ann Wright of Monroe; four sisters: Vickie (Rick) Hughes of Monroe, Joyce Turner of Indiana, Robin (Mike) Szuma of Monroe, Pam (Mark) Monroe of Monroe; three brothers: Danny Kinney, Mark (Ann) Kinney, Jimmy Kinney all of Monroe; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may gather from 11:00-4:00pm, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 5:30pm until a Celebration of Her Life at 7:00pm at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, 14260 South Dixie Highway. Friends are invited to join in the church Fellowship Hall for a meal between 5:30-7:00pm.
