Edmond Donald Johnson was born on May, 4, 1943 in Weeksbury, Kentucky. Edmond was one of five children born from the union of Wid Johnson and Beatrice (Stanley) Johnson. Edmond married the love of his life Deborah Melton in Detroit, Michigan on March 23, 1974.
Edmond and Deborah were blessed with three children: Tracey Lynn Bazzi of Monroe, Trisha Bradley of Indiana, and the late Edmond Johnson Jr. Edmond was also given the gift of four grandchildren: Tristian Johnson, Weston (Wendy) Bradley, Trenda (Luke) Bradley, and Travis Bradley, and four great grandchildren: Brayden Gamble, Anna Bradley, Devin Bradley, and Kaelyn Bradley. Edmond shared many memories with his siblings including Jimmy Johnson of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Mitchell Johnson of Monroe, Michigan. He also had a brother: Wid Johnson and a sister: Eda Fay who passed away.
Edmond as a young man was an avid bowler. Besides enjoying bowling; he was pretty good as well. Edmond would bowl against young men who would later become professionals. His favorite place to bowl was the Taylor Lanes. Edmond's family however appreciated his cooking the most. Edmond always enjoyed the company of others and his food was one of the best opportunities to bring those he loved together. His most prized entrée was his famed fried chicken.
For more than 17 years Edmond was employed at Valley Vulcan Mold in Trenton, Michigan. He worked as an Overhead Crane Operator until taking a medical retirement in 1987.
Edmond D. Johnson, age 66, of Monroe passed away peacefully at his home at 11:35am, Thursday, July 9, 2009 with his family by his side. Edmond had been under the care of his daughter Tracey for the past few months. Recently, the family had turned to Mercy Memorial Hospice for assistance.
Friends may gather from 1:00pm-8:00pm on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am, Monday, July 13, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service. The Rev. John Bullard will officiate. Procession will follow to Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, Michigan for burial.
