My heart goes out to all of Matt's family and friends. I had the privilege of being Matt's math teacher for 2 years, and this young man was amazing! Such a kind heart. He had a natural ability in mathematics and he truly cared about his education. He had one rough patch last year, but when I challenged him to pull through and not let his abilities go to waste, he stepped up!! Not only met my expectations, but surpassed them! I was so proud of him! His heart knew he could do it! As a teacher, you build relationships that will last a lifetime and you see potential in kids before they see it in themselves....but also, death is the ONE struggle being a teacher brings....my heart is heavy. I will miss him. Mrs Eby and I were just talking about how we were looking forward to seeing his success in AP Calculus this year. I will miss his smile and our talks. He was always excited to tell me stories about his car...he was so proud! He will be missed by all of us at JHS! Sending prayers to his friends and family, and I hope we can all find some type of peace knowing he is in a better place.
