Carolyn Flo Cathey

Ash Township - Carolyn Flo Cathey 69, of Ash Township went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, July 6, 2011. She passed at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends and under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather for a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 3:00pm at the Monroe Free Methodist Church, 3928 East Dunbar Road. The Rev. Dale Kaufman pastor of the church will officiate. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with her arrangements.
Carolyn was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 27, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Edward Preisach and the late Jean (Wilson) Preisach. She married Billie Eugene Cathey Sr. on July 5, 1958 in Detroit. Together they would share more than fifty-three years of marriage until his passing on October 31, 2006. Carolyn attended Monroe County Community College and obtained her Associate's Degree.
For nine years, Carolyn was employed by the Meijer Warehouse in Newport as a Hi-Lo Driver. She had also previously been employed by the Flat Rock Kroger Store for seven years.
She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and worked as a custodian for many years. She loved animals and was an avid supporter of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Carolyn enjoyed the time that she spent with her family and she cherished their get-togethers. She also loved to spend time with her husband. Together one of their favorite pastimes was bird watching in the yard. Carolyn could identify most of the birds by their sound.
To cherish her memory Carolyn leaves four children: Linda (Jerry) Lee of Livonia, Dawn (Greg) Staten of Monroe, Kimberly (Cathey) Buell of Monroe; and Billie Cathey Jr. of Carleton; seven grandchildren: Melissa, Michael, Jason, Vicki, Rosalyn, Craig, Kaleb, eight great grandchildren; sisters: Amy (Mike) Taylor, Kristen Preisach, brother: Shannon (Gail) Landino. In addition to her parents and husband Carolyn's passing was preceded by a sister: Linda Merritt.
