Obituary of Irene Smith

Irene J. McGee was born on January 29, 1925 in Lakeview, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Paul and the late Minnie McGee. As a young woman, Irene worked building tanks at Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. She married her soulmate, Norman F. Smith, on August 21, 1945, after which they relocated to Toledo. Irene worked at Riverside Hospital and as a Service Unit Manager at Toledo Hospital. After retiring from the healthcare field, she worked in retail at JC Penney's and volunteered at the Veteran's Administration. Irene loved to read, enjoyed animals, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Irene J. Smith age 86 of Toledo passed away on Monday morning, July 4, 2011. In addition to her parents and her husband her passing was preceded by a son-in-law: John Nederhouser. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Norma Jean Nederhouser, David L. (Linda L. (nee Fuelling) Smith, and Tanya (Ken Henley) Smith; two grandchildren: Jason Smith and Melissa (David) West; one brother: Don McGee; and one sister: Ruth Musser. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather for a memorial service on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00am at Calvary Assembly of God, 5025 Glendale Ave., Toledo, Oh, 43614 with a luncheon to follow at the church. Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street Erie, Michigan (734) 848-5185 was entrusted with her arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those interested to make donations to either The Alzhiemer's Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
