Obituary of Alfred Wohlfeil

Alfred "Big Al" Leo Wohlfeil June 13, 1943 - June 11, 2011 Alfred Leo Wohlfeil was born in Monroe, Michigan on June 13, 1943. He was one of two children born from the union of the late Alfred F. Wohlfeil and Mary (Siterlet) Wohlfeil. He was a graduate of Airport High School. Alfred was employed by Amedt Milling as their Plant Manager for twenty years. He then worked eight years in Maintenance at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Alfred retired in 2009. He was a member of the Monroe Family Moose Lodge 884. An avid outdoorsman he loved to hunt, fish, and visit Northern Michigan. In many ways, "Big Al", as his friends warmly referred to him, was larger than life itself. Al loved to spend time with his buddies, and he liked to share a drink every now and then, even having his own bar stool. Although he was "Big Al" to the guys he was "Sonny" to his family. Alfred Leo Wohlfeil age 67 of Monroe passed away at 12:44pm, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. His passing was preceded by his father. His memory will forever be cherished by a son: Anthony (Misty) Wohlfeil of Monroe; a daughter: Andrea (James) Gravlin of Arizona; his mother Mary Wohlfeil of Monroe; one sister: Bertha Michaels of Milan; four grandchildren: Heather, Emily, Anthony, and Nicholas; two great grandchildren: Caleb and Noelle; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 7:00pm, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of his Life will take place at 7:00pm with the Rev. James Jacobs Chaplaincy Director for Mercy Memorial Hospital officiating. Cremation will follow and private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle at a later date.
