Obituary of Gregory Hopkins
Gregory Alan Hopkins May 25, 1967 - February 23, 2011 Gregory Alan Hopkins was born in Monroe, Michigan on May 25, 1967. He was one of three children born from the union of Benjamin Chester Hopkins and Sheilia Irene (Dusseau) Hopkins. Gregory was baptized and received his first communion at St. Anne Catholic Church. He had attended Monroe High School. Gregory married the former Sheryl Riley. For more than twenty years he was employed as a commercial painter. Gregory had been employed by several local companies as well as being independently employed for some time. He had also had worked for Bob Evans Restaurant as a cook. He took a medical retirement in 2006. Gregory loved the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing and bicycling. He also enjoyed shooting pool, drawing and sketching, and he had a passion for music and a love for playing his guitar. Gregory had a gift with others as well. His personality was kind, caring, and helpful. He enjoyed bringing others happiness and laughter. Gregory had a great love for his family and friends, and was extremely proud of his children. He had great faith in his Lord and Savior and he received his strength from regularly reading his Bible. Gregory Alan Hopkins age 43 of Monroe passed away from injuries suffered in a car accident on Wednesday morning February 23, 2011. His passing was preceded by paternal grandparents: Rose Johnson and Chester Hopkins and maternal grandfather: Kenneth Dusseau. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons: Jasper Hopkins of Southgate and Benjamin (Melissa) Robinson of Monroe; granddaughter: Kira Grace Robinson of Monroe; his mother: Sheilia Hopkins of Monroe; his father: Benjamin (Juanita) Hopkins of Monroe; maternal grandmother: Wilma Dusseau; two sisters: Shawn Marie Besedich (Keith Guyot) of Dearborn and Cassandra Ann (Jeff) Perkins of Ida; one nephew: Steven Arthur Raymer; two nieces: Brandy Renee Raymer and Stephanie Nicole Hopkins; great nieces: Gracianna Johnson and Aubrianna Johnson. Friends may gather from 12:00pm until 6:00pm, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 6:00pm with Father William Mossett pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church officiating.
