Obituary of Dennis Hardy

Dennis E. Hardy, age 54, of Monroe passed away at 9:35am, Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Friends may gather Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 1:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, (734) 384-5185 where a scripture service will be held at 7:00pm under the direction of the Knights of Columbus Council #1266. He will lie-in-state at St. Michael Catholic Church from 9:00am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 Father Stephen Vileo will officiate. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for burial. Dennis was born January 29, 1955 in Monroe, Michigan the son of Harlen C. and Madonna C. (Kimling) Hardy. Madonna passed away on July 2, 1957. In 1959 Dennis' father, Harlen, married Joann (Mentel) Scarffe and she took on the responsibility of raising a young family. Dennis was a December of 1982 graduate of Eastern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor degree in Science and a minor in Business Computers. Dennis had been employed by the State of Michigan Licensing Bureau. He worked as a system analyst until taking a medical retirement in 1995. Dennis was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Council #1266. While living in Lansing he was also a member of St. Casimir Council #9711. For many years he assisted the local Goodfellow's at Christmas time with packing food boxes. He enjoyed bowling and gathering together with his family. Dennis frequented many events sponsored by Home, Inc. attending special events including dances and parties. Dennis is survived by a loving family including two brothers and four sisters: Tim and Irene Hardy of Novi, Elaine and John Cangealose Jr. of Monroe, Tom and Vickie Scarffe of Mansfield, Ohio, Cathy and R. Scott Pagel of Strongsville, Ohio, Jane and Ralph Woodbury of Monroe, and Ann and Mike Hedges of Monroe; fourteen nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, many cousins; and his beloved dog, Sam. In addition to his mother: Madonna and his mother: Joann on May 9, 2001, Dennis' passing was preceded by his father October 4, 1989, and two nieces Ashleigh November 30, and Miranda Woodbury on December 1, 1986.
