Obituary of Minnie Opal Wagner

M. Opal Wagner December 4, 1934 - May 9, 2011 Opal Cain was born in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee on December 4, 1934. She was one of six children born from the union of the late Daniel Cain and the late Goldie (Walker) Cain. At the age of one, Opal's family moved to Monroe where she attended Lincoln School on the East Side. Opal married Carson Wagner on February 4, 1950 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. From this union came the birth of five children. Opal became a homemaker and raised the couple's children. She enjoyed crocheting and testing her mind with a crossword puzzle or a game of scrabble. Opal liked to work in her garden. She loved to spend time with her family and she was especially fond of her grandchildren. Opal enjoyed shopping and liked to cut costs by coupon cutting. She was a charter member of the Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church. She had been very active over the past fifty years serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She loved to sing. M. Opal Wagner age 76 of Monroe passed from this life into eternal glory on Monday afternoon, May 9, 2011. Her loving family was at her side. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a daughter: Sheila Garcia; three sisters: Gertrude Wood, Edna Schoen, and Oma Fowler; and a brother: Malcolm Cain. To cherish her memory she leaves a husband of more than sixty-one years: Carson Wagner of Monroe; four children: Dana (Kirk) Heller, Kelly (Jan) Wagner, Keith Wagner, and Trudy (Chuck) Boes all of Monroe; one sister: Judy Pridemore of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Jason and Johnny Garcia, Jessica (Ben) Brenton, Matthew Heller, Emily Wagner, also Jacob, Tyler, and Goldie Boes; two great grandchildren: Jaxon and Gabby Brenton; and a dog: Birdie. Friends may gather from 12:00-8:00pm, Friday, May 13, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00am, Saturday, May 14 at the Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, 225 West Hurd. Reverend BJ McDaniel pastor of the church will officiate. Procession will follow to Woodland Cemetery for burial. Memorial donations for those who desire may be made in Opal's name to the church Building Fund.
