Obituary of Sylvia Brown

Sylvia L. Brown September 25, 1931 - June 2, 2008 Sylvia Lee Brown, age 76, passed away Monday; June 2, 2008 at the Mercy Memorial Nursing Center, Monroe. Her loving family was at her side in the care of Heartland Hospice and Homecare. Sylvia had been employed as a secretary for more than fourteen years at Monroe County Senior Legal Services. She also served on the Board of Directors for Monroe County Senior Legal Services. Sylvia loved to cook. She especially enjoyed the interaction with her family that her cooking provided. She never needed a special occasion to gather her loved ones. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and to attend their events. She was also an avid gardener. Sylvia was born September 25, 1931 in Salado, Texas from the marriage of the late Morris Maretick and the late Mildred (Talbott) Maretick. She married Sedgie S. Brown; August 3, 1954 in Richmond, Texas. Sylvia and Sedgie moved their family to Monroe County from Victoria, Texas in 1971. For the past thirty-seven years she has called Monroe home. She leaves to cherish her memory two beloved daughters: Sherry (Skip) Champagne of Ida and Stacy Wilson of Monroe, Michigan; a brother: Donald Maretick of Victoria, Texas; five grandchildren: Ryan Champagne of MI, Shailyn Brown of FL, Tanner Brown of MI, Brandi Dye of FL, Mike Wilson of PA; one great grandson: Ethan Champagne of MI. She was preceded in her passing by her husband: Sedgie in 1982 and a son Donald Shane Brown in 1994. Friends may gather at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township, (734) 384-5185; Saturday June 7, 2008 from 9am until a Celebration of her Life at 11:00am. Rev. Larry Head pastor of Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church of Newport will officiate. Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services, Livonia. Burial of her cremains will take place at a later date in Victoria, Texas. For those desiring the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
