William D. McFaul June 16, 1922 - May 9, 2009 William D. McFaul, 85, of Monroe passed away Friday, May 9, 2008 at his home. He had been in declining health for the past five months. William was born June 16, 1922 in Butternut, Michigan to the union of the late Owen McFaul and the late Alma (Swanson) McFaul. He married Fay Davis July 14, 1947 in Angolia, Indiana. William served during World War II. He was a member of the Ninth Air Force from October 26, 1942 to November 13, 1945. He was at Normandy during the D-Day Allied invasion of Europe on June 6, 1944. He also served in France, the Rhineland, and Ardennes as a first-class gunner, TSMG. In addition, he served in the military police. He received the good conduct medal, American Theater service medal, EAME Theater service medal, five bronze stars and the victory medal. William worked at La-Z-Boy Chair Company as an upholsterer for 35 years, retiring in 1986. William enjoyed History; especially the Civil War. He had his own woodworking shop at his home. William and Fay enjoyed traveling together in the United States and Mexico. He also loved to spend time with his Family and Grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife Fay; one daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and William Lipford of Monroe; one son and daughter-in-law: Douglas and Nadine McFaul of Toledo, Ohio; one sister: Betty Wilson of Adrian; and one brother: Emil and Nan McFaul of Idaho; four grandchildren: Kimberly and Dustin Powell, Christopher Lipford, Bryan and Linda McFaul, and Bradley McFaul; four great grandchildren: Zachary McFaul, Audrey McFaul, Morgan Powell, and Brayden Powell. William was preceded in his passing by his parents and a brother: Edward McFaul. A Private Celebration of Life was held on Monday, May 12, 2008. Procession to Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle for burial followed. Graveside services were under the Auspices of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township, (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice or to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.
