David Joseph Okray
December 6, 1951 - March 21, 2008
David Joseph Okray, age 56, passed away suddenly on Good Friday, March 21, 2008.
David was born on December 6, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan from the union of the late Francis Joseph Okray and Gertrude Halmniak. He had attended Catholic schools and high school in the Detroit area. David served honorably in the United States Army from March 17, 1969 until January 11, 1972. While serving he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was an M-16 sharpshooter.
He married Leona Howard on July 5, 1983 in Ohio. Since 1984 they have made their home in Newport. David was a devout member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Newport. David worked for more than thirty-five years for the Ford Motor Company. He was a Dingman at the Wayne Truck Plant. He retired in December of 2006. David enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, and putzing in the garage.
In addition to his wife: Leona of Newport, David leaves to cherish his memory; six children: Mary and Bruce Banks of Carleton, Michael and Doreen Faust of Newport, Todd Faust of Monroe, David Faust of Newport, Rashael and Mike Raymer of Carleton, and Tavis Okray of Belleville; a sister: Debbie and Dave Kirchoff of Dearborn Heights; eleven wonderful grandchildren; and two loving companions Roco and Foofoo. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother: Tim Okray in 2000.
Friends may Gather from 9:00am until the Celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am; Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 8109 Swan Creek Road, Newport. The Father Fred Misiolek, will officiate. Cremation will follow through Southern Michigan Services, Livonia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township, (734) 384-5185.
