Albert Robert Kocsis
October 8, 1926 - January 5, 2011
Albert Kocsis was born in Avella, Pennsylvania on October 8, 1926. He was the son of the late James and the late Mary (Nogradi) Kocsis. He attended Dearborn Fordson High School.
Albert served his country honorably as a member of the Merchant Marines from 1944-1945. He also served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, and played the saxophone in the band.
He married Jacqueline "Johnnie" McPartlin in 1946 and to this union came the birth of children: Barry and Sandy. He later married Ruth McDermott on May 3, 1953 in Detroit and had daughters: Kathleen, Kelly, and Karen.
Albert worked for Stroh's for ten years. He then spent twenty-six years at Chrysler-Jeep in Toledo. He retired in 1988 as a Quality Assurance Auditor.
Albert was a character. He infringed on his children strong morals and values, but never judged if they fell short. He loved his family and his biggest concern was always his girls. He was a member of the UAW in Toledo. He enjoyed gardening and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor namely onions and tomatoes with others. Albert loved music; especially Big Band, and enjoyed dancing and playing the saxophone and clarinet. He was an avid sports fan of the Lions, Tigers, University of Michigan, and Red Wings.
Albert age 84 passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. His passing in addition to his parents, wife, and daughter: Sandy Renaud was preceded by siblings: William "Bill", Frank, James, Steve, Joseph, Helen Evola, and Margaret Nugent.
Barry (Halina Jarosz-Renaud) of Bonsall, CA, Kathleen Peterman of Southgate, MI, Kelly (Donald) Elmer of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Karen (Leslie) Lieb of Ida, MI; four grandchildren: Christopher Renaud of Switzerland, Shannon (Brent) Draeger of Toledo, David Lieb of Ida, and Melissa Lieb of Ida; and one great grandson: Nathan Draeger of Toledo.
Friends may gather from 12:00-5:00pm on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 5:00pm with the VFW Post 1138 performing military honors followed by Rev. Tim Iocoangeli pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. A private burial service will take place at Michigan Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Mercy Memorial Hospice or the Charity of the Donor's choice are suggested.
