Rose Marie Karnicki age 88 of Carleton, Michigan passed away at 1:00am, Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Fountainview of Monroe.
She will lie in state on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2996 West Labo Road in Carleton. Father Robert Bauer pastor of the church will officiate and burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements.
Rose was born on September 20, 1922 in River Rouge, Michigan. She was the daughter of Andrew Burek and Helen (Salabura) Burek. Rose married Michael E. Karnicki on July 15, 1944 in Gainesville, Texas before Michael left to serve in the war. They renewed their vows at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe in 1946. Michael preceded her in death on February 25, 2003.
Rose was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, visiting friends, and being outdoors.
Rose is survived by her three daughters: Virginia (Carl) Wheeler of Carleton, Michigan, Patricia (Joel) Pelavin of Beverly Hills, Michigan, and Donna Stewart of Purcellville, Virginia; seven grandsons: Daniel Wheeler of Wixom, Michigan, Raymond (Leslie) Wheeler of Monroe, Michigan, William (Jennifer) Wheeler of Dundee, Michigan, Ryan Pelavin of Seattle, Washington, Brett Pelavin of Dallas, Texas, and Anthony and Aaron Wolak both of Purcellville, Virginia; four cherished great grandchildren: Hunter and Luke Wheeler of Monroe, Michigan and Makenna and Maddox Wheeler of Dundee, Michigan; and a sister: Frances Karnicki of Carleton, Michigan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Andrew, Joseph, Edward, and Theodore Burek; and a sister: Dorothy Wojda.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice or to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
