Ethel Cora Wake
June 19, 1931 - October 18, 2010
Ethel Cora Shafer was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 19, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Frederick Shafer and the late Edna (Jordan) Shafer. She graduated from Melvindale High School.
She married Morton John Wake. She had been employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company and also by Mount Hope Lutheran School as a janitor. Cora's as her friends called her, true passion in life however was that of a homemaker. She loved the opportunity to nurture her five children. Later in life she had the pleasure of grandchildren. Cora never missed an opportunity to share time with her grandchildren. She even enjoyed joining in games with them.
For the past twenty years she made her home in Taylor. Cora was well known at the nursing home and she cared for several elderly folks over the years visited them quite frequently. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, completing yard work, cooking, baking, and collecting dolls.
Cora will probably be best remembered for her big, kind heart and for her love of others. She had formerly attended the Zion Untied Methodist Church in LaSalle.
Ethel Cora Wake age 79 of Taylor passed away at 7:30am, Monday, October 18, 2010 at her home. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a brother: Frederick Shafer and a nephew: Erie Shafer.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Vicki Moore of Monroe, Debbie Wake of Rochester Hills, Johnny (Melody) Wake of Georgia, Geraldine (Sherman) Baker of Tennessee, Frederick (Mary) Wake of Kentucky; a brother: Robert (Violet) Shafer of Wyandotte, Michigan; twelve grandchildren: Tara and Hailey Moore, Jessica Oster, Erica, Jason, and Gabrielle Wake, Ryan, Tony(Alicia), Samantha, and Tyrus Baker, and Ethan and Austin Wake; two great grandchildren: Hailey and Brooklyn Baker; nine step grandchildren; and a niece: Kim Irving.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, October 22, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The Rev. Dale Hayford pastor of Crosswalks Community Church in Monroe will officiate.
