Obituary of Michael West

Michael Paul West August 2, 1961 - October 17, 2010 Michael Paul West was born in Monroe, Michigan on August 2, 1961. Michael was one of six children born from the union of the late John Harry West and the late Norma Jean (Fraser) West. He grew up in Newport and attended Airport Community Schools. Michael worked as a laborer for most of his life which usually afforded him the ability to work outside. He loved the outdoors. Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding dirt bikes, and was very fond of his co-ed softball league. He was a big sports fan and loved to watch football and boxing. Michael was an avid Detroit Tiger and Detroit Lion fan. He liked to play cards, Texas Hold Em, and loved to gamble. Michael was the life of the party. In fact, his favorite line was, "I'm not here for a long time, just a good time". He was friendly and happy, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his two children very much, but like most kids they thought their dad was pretty dorky sometimes. Michael Paul West age 49 a lifelong Monroe County resident passed away at 4:21pm, Sunday, October 17, 2010 at St. Vincent Medical Regional Heart and Vascular Center in Toledo. His passing was preceded by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory two children: Michael West of Taylor and Krystal West of Newport; two sisters: Debbie (Bernard) Coon of Maybee and Jacqueline (Ken) Guy of Monroe; three brothers: Chris (Lori) West of Carleton, Timothy (Pam) West of Monroe, and Mark (Sheila) West of Maybee; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Monday, October 25, 2010. The Rev. Louie Barnett pastor of Eagle's Nest Community Church will officiate. Procession will follow to St. Patrick Cemetery in Carleton for burial. Memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to the family.
