Gordon Adams, age 70, passed from this life at 11:55pm, Sunday, January 27, 2008. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer. Gordon was in the company of his loving family. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice for the past two and a half weeks.
Friends are invited to gather from 2:00pm until 9:00pm, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Merkle Funeral Home, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township. Friends may also gather at the funeral home from 11:00am until 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at this time a Celebration of his Life will take place. Procession and Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Graveside services will be under the auspices of VFW Post 1138.
Gordon was born on January 8, 1938 in Rapid City, South Dakota the son of Elmer and Thelma (Carter) Adams. He graduated from Worland High School, Washakie County, Wyoming. Gordon served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. On July 14, 1957 he married Elma Jean Staley in Worland, Wyoming.
Gordon worked for more than forty years as a meat cutter. He had worked for several employers including Safe-Way and Vons. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Local 421 in Bell Gardens, California. Gordon enjoyed bowling, especially at Nortel Lanes and visiting the MGM Casino. He was an avid baseball fan and counted the Dodgers and Tigers as his favorite teams.
He is survived by four children: Cindy and Gary Otter of Monroe, Nancy Jones and Karen Adams both of Bell Gardens, CA, and Jimmy Adams of Visalia, CA; a brother: Orville and Yvette Adams of Riverton, Wyoming; two sisters: Linda and Gene "Frog" Roessing of Worland, WY, and Delylah Felton of Lander, WY; five grandchildren: Sandee, Scott, Matthew, Stephanie, and Johanna; four great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife: Elma Jean on April 22, 2005; his parents; and two brothers: James Adams and Floyd "Artie" Adams.
