Audra "Ray" Stone May 1, 1929 - August 3, 2010 Audra was born in Duff, Kentucky on May 1, 1929. He was one of ten children born from the union of the late William and Ada (Rankin) Stone. Growing up he enjoyed working on the farm, and walked three miles down a dirt road and through the woods to school. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, and married the former Betty Mae Noble. He worked for several employers as a laborer. Ray was employed by Ford Motor for thirteen years. In addition Ray worked for Monroe Scrap, roofed houses, and enjoyed building homes for his brother-in-law: Bill Noble. Ray loved working with his hands and constructing things out of wood; making dog houses, wishing wells, Nativity Scenes, and picnic tables. Ray had a passion for his children and enjoyed taking them fishing; once catching a turtle. He also liked taking his grandchildren for walks down Stoney Creek Road and to Stoney Creek to watch the fish. He looked forward each Easter to attending church as a family. He enjoyed helping his family with home improvement projects. Ray loved vacationing down South, playing pool; which he was extremely good at, and yard work; including mowing the grass. He enjoyed visiting his neighbors and sharing in all the "wonderfuls" that they provided for him Audra "Ray" Stone 81 of Monroe passed away at 10:05am, Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Medilodge of Monroe. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a son: Dennis Stone; eight siblings; a grandson: Niles McIntosh; former spouse: Betty Stone; and son-in-law: Chum Vanwassehnova. His memory will be cherished by his children: David (Loretta) Burnette, John (Laura) Stone both of Monroe, Georgia Vanwassehnova of South Rockwood, Diana Powell of Bedford, Danny Stone of Monroe, Norma (Mike) Miller of Kennesaw, GA, Janice (Tony) Valerio of Monroe, and Andy (Hilda) Parker of Carleton; one sister: Mag Aitken of Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Friends may gather from 12:00-8:00pm, Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will take place 11:00am, Friday, August 6. The Rev. Harold Raines of Monroe Full Gospel officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn where graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.
