Richard "Dick" Lloyd McCloskey
October 24, 1939 - May 15, 2010
Richard Lloyd McCloskey was born in Romulus, Michigan on October 24, 1939. He was the son of the late Richard McCloskey and the late Beatrice (Gunnel) McCloskey. He was known by his friends and family as "Dick". Dick graduated from Romulus High School in 1957.
He married the former Florence "Flo" Scharnagl in Romulus on August 27, 1960. From this union came the birth of two children.
Dick worked as a Jig Grinder and Machinist making precision gauges for some 40 years before retiring in February of 2009. He had been employed by CES Jig Grinding, O'Keller Tool, Dunn, and finally Air Gauge of Livonia from which he retired.
Dick loved the outdoors and spending time on long walks with his four-legged companion - Nadia. He enjoyed many outdoors activities, including: ice and river fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and boating. The Great Lakes was one of his favorite places to spend time. He also liked woodworking.
Dick had amazing knowledge. He loved to work with his hands. Dick took pride in all that he did and he appreciated the opportunity to teach his skills to others. He completed many home improvement and repair projects, as well as fixed the family car on his own.
Dick's memory will be cherished by his wife: "Flo" of Erie; two sons: Keith (Rebecca) McCloskey of Carleton and Kevin McCloskey of Milan; three grandchildren: Sydney and Blake McCloskey of Carleton and Brook McCloskey of Florida; and many loving neighbors.
Richard Lloyd McCloskey of Erie passed away at 2:50pm, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Medical Center in Ypsilanti.
Friends may gather from 1:00pm until 3:00pm, Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where A Celebration of His Life will take place at 3:00pm with Brian S. Merkle officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow for additional fellowship.
