Bertha Jane Young
September14, 1921 - April 25, 2010
Bertha Jane Vigue was born in Keshena, Wisconsin on September 14, 1921. She was one of eighteen children from the union of the late Paul Vigue and the late Barbara (Slavic) Vigue. Bertha moved to Michigan to help her sister. She met Charles Lloyd Young and they were married on April 10, 1942. He passed away in January of 1996.
During the war she found employment as a rivet girl for Ford Motor. Bertha was employed by Cunningham Drug Store for many years and she performed retail tasks. She retired at the age of 63 because of the companies closing. Bertha returned to school and obtained her Diploma in 1990.
She previously lived in Taylor where she was a member of St. Pascal's Catholic Church, and the Ladies Auxillary to the VFW Post 2222 in River Rouge.
Bertha loved the outdoors and especially the sun. She enjoyed fishing and gardening, and usually had a garden large enough to feed an army. Bertha was known to be constantly pulling weeds to keep her lawn manicured. She was very active and even shoveled her own snow this past winter. Bertha liked to sew, and was a member of a sewing club with her sisters. She enjoyed shopping, and she loved Wal-Mart. She loved her family, and they consider her the Matriach.
