Obituary of Edward C. Ourlian

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edward Charles Ourlian was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 22, 1952. He was one of four sons born from the union of Edward and Catherine (Piros) Ourlian. Edward was married to the love of his life the former Connie Nichols for 46 wonderful years. To provide for his family, Edward was gainfully employed as a tug driver with Ford Motor Company for thirty-two years.

Edward’s yard was his sanctuary, a place where friends and family often found him tending to his backyard oasis while listening to his music and enjoying an ice cold Guinness. Each year for Halloween he could be found decorating the entire house and yard for the neighborhood kids to enjoy.

Edward's golf cart was his chariot. During the summer months, he could be seen driving it around Detroit Beach. He loved the freedom it provided, allowing him to explore the community with the wind in his hair and the sun on his face.

Cooking was more than a necessity for Edward—it was a social event. Though he preferred to supervise the grill rather than cook, his presence was essential. His family often joked about his role as the "Grill Master Supervisor”, rather than the “Grill Master”.

Annually, Edward and his beloved wife Connie would travel to the Smoky Mountains, lodging in a cabin at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. With the fresh mountain air and breathtaking views these trips were filled with much laughter and love.

Edward and Connie shared a fondness for adventure, as evidenced by their three trips along the historic Route 66. Their journey took them as far as Oatman, Arizona. Each trip down the iconic highway was unique, filled with quirky roadside attractions and diners offering a taste of Americana.

In his later years, Edward embraced the convenience of modern technology, frequently placing orders on Amazon. It was not uncommon for packages to arrive almost daily.

Above all, Edward valued the company of family and friends. Whenever tasks around the house needed attention, he had his trademark approach: a phone call with a simple request, "Hey I got a job for you. It will only take 10 minutes." These gatherings turned into hours, filled with stories, laughter, and the simple pleasure of being together.
