Gerald Lee Hicks was born in North Lawrence, New York on July 28, 1941. He was one of four children born from the union of Arden and Iola (Chesbrough) Hicks. Gerald served his country honorably by enlisting into the United States Air Force; earning several commendations.
Gerald married the love of his life the former, Christine Renner on May 2, 1964 in Oscoda, Michigan. He met his lovely wife while in the military being stationed in Oscoda. From this union, came the birth of three lovely children.
Gerald was a very hard and dedicated worker. For the last fifteen years of his career, he had supported his family with employment as an Assembler at Automatic Handling in Erie, Michigan. Before Gerald and his family moved to Temperance, he served as an auxiliary police officer in Wyandotte.
Gerald was a wonderful husband and father, always cherishing the time spent with family. He was a member of the Studebakers Driving club and previously had a collection. Gerald was a past member of the Taylor Pistol Team and loved to gunsmith on the side. He also enjoyed the great outdoors and nature, and the thrill of hunting.
Gerald Lee Hicks, age 73, of Temperance passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:40am at home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his stepfather: Clifford Kumm.
To cherish his memory Gerald leaves his beloved wife of fifty years: Christine Hicks; three children: Timothy Hicks of Lincoln Park, Steven (Tracy) Hicks of Ottawa Lake, and Paula (Josh) Portelli of Grosse Ile; two sisters: Bonnie (Charlie) Fell and Sheila (Roger) Chenez, both of Lockport, New York; and a brother: Stephen (Linda) Hicks of Washington.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Erie 9156 Summit Street (734) 848-5185. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
