Obituary of Johnnie Edwards
Johnnie Edwards was born on November 9,1953, in Chicago, Illinois. He was one son born to the union of Jeff and Carrie (Hill) Edwards. He graduated from Tildan High School in Chicago. On February 15, 1986, he married the love of his life: the former Dorothy Jean Taylor.
Johnny and his beautiful bride had a love story that could have been written in the stars. Their favorite pastime was Steppin’—a style of dance they perfected and showcased wherever music played, especially at family gatherings. Together, they glided across the floor, lost in each other's company and the rhythm of the night.
Family was at the core of Johnny's life and the word "step" was limited to the dance floor. He would frequently gather his entire family for grand barbecues, filling the air with laughter, the sizzle of cooking meat, and the rich aroma of his secret homemade sauces. Whether it was ribs, chicken, links, or a cornucopia of other delights, Johnny’s fire pits were legendary.
Sterling State Park was a safe haven, where Johnnie often indulged in serene fishing trips. To demonstrate his impressive swimming skills, he was also known to take daring leaps off bridges.
An avid sports fan, Johnny's enthusiasm for Michigan football was palpable. However, his heart beat strongest for the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls. His admiration for basketball legends Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen was well-known, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer his teams to victory.
As a man of great faith, Johnnie fed his spiritual appetite by attending service at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe.
