Obituary of Phyllis Ellen Mullendore
Phyllis Ellen Miller was born in Monroe, Michigan on August 21, 1936. She was the daughter of Clarence Miller and Lucy (Lanier) Miller. She attended Custer Elementary and Monroe High School, graduating with the Class of 1955. While in school she worked at the Hall of the Divine Child and then as a young woman spent time in the laundry at St. Mary’s and Monroe Steam.
While still in high school, Phyllis met her future husband Frederick Wayne Mullendore. They were joined in holy matrimony on June 16, 1956, at Calvary United Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with two sons: Mark and Randy. Phyllis cared for the needs of her family as a homemaker. From 1966-1978 she was employed in the sewing department at La-Z-Boy.
Phyllis and Fred were very active members of Calvary United Methodist Church for many years until 2006 when they joined Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to play euchre and bunco belonging to a club for twenty years. She also stayed active as a bowler playing in many leagues at Nortel Lanes and throwing horseshoes. She and Fred would often take camping trips going up north to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family.
Phyllis loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed visiting others and having company over to entertain often saying to potential guests, “Come See Me”. She cherished the time she had with her children playing the marble board game and just hanging out with the grandchildren. She often challenged her mind with puzzles although nothing drove her crazy more than when she was missing a piece.
