Obituary of Vera Jane Williams
Vera Jane Myers was born on May 5, 1938, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of four children born from the union of Reverend Henry Myers and Margaret (Dossett) Myers. She attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1956.
On June 16, 1956 in Monroe, Michigan, Vera married David Eugene Williams. The couple was blessed with the birth of six children. Vera cared for the needs of her family as a homemaker. A devout woman of Christ she was always active in a church, spending time at Hope Church of Monroe, Union Street Missionary Baptist Church, and most recently at Kentucky Park Missionary Baptist Church. For many years, no matter the congregation she shared her gift of music by playing the piano.
Vera was a hard and dedicated worker that loved pleasing others. She worked at Barnacle Bills Restaurant in Frenchtown, Arbys and Chrysler Learning Center. Vera most recently drove a bus for Lake Erie Transit where she often enjoyed hearing people yell, “Hi Vera”
Vera had many diverse interests of which to fill her time. She was past member of the Monroe Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an excellent quilter. Gardening was another one of her favorite pastimes. Her vegetables; corn, green beans, tomatoes, and rhubarb were canned to enjoy the whole year. Her homemade jelly was delightful. A wonderful cook, she made great coconut cream, butterscotch, and chocolate pies, banana pudding, meatloaf and dumplings.
Vera loved to fish and hunt. She was always doing for others – typically driving the streets to get it done. She was a milkshake enthusiast, consistently finding it hard to drive past a Dairy Queen without pulling in, but for the past year her loved ones made sure she had an ice cream every day.
