Harvey Hancock was born in Monroe on August 8, 1941. He was one of six children born from the union of the late William Walter and the late Shirley Elizabeth (Uncapher) Hancock. Lee was a 1959 graduate of Monroe High School.
Lee supported his family employed as a Grocer at Fred W. Meijers, a Cashier at Hoffman's Grocery, and an Assistant Manager at Sam Mignano's East Side Store for sixteen years.
Although Lee kept to himself mostly, he was known for his great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. Lee enjoyed his family. He was a wonderful brother and uncle. Appreciating the palate, Lee took pride cooking for his friends and family and creating many different spicy cuisines.
Harvey "Lee" Hancock, age 73, of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 6:49pm after battling lifelong muscle atrophy and cancer since 2009. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by two brothers: Robert and Joseph Hancock; and one brother-in-law: Chuck Staelgraeve.
To cherish his memory Lee leaves two sisters: Virginia Frey from Trenton and Martha Staelgraeve of Monroe; one brother Walter Hancock of Monroe; seven nieces and nephews: Deb Staelgraeve, David (Gina) Staelgraeve, Todd (Laurie) Staelgraeve, Robin Frey, Cindy Frey, Georgia Ann (Roger) LeBean and Melinda Nepsey; and special friends: David Albain Jr. and Stephanie Braunlich.
Friends may gather from 10:00 until 12:00pm on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 12:00pm also at Merkle's with Pastor Tim Iocoangeli of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph's Cemetery, Monroe.
