James Robert Stivenson Jr. was born in South Whitley, Indiana on November 20, 1939. He was the only child born from the union of the late James R. and Rose (Peller) Stivenson Sr. James spent his childhood in Indiana before attending Western International High School in Detroit.
James settled in Carleton in 1978. He raised two children that he loved dearly and took great pride in all their accomplishments. James supported his family as an automotive engineer working for Ford Motor Company. His career would span some thirty years before his retirement in 1998.
James was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He was very social and loved to converse with his friends whenever he could. Not only did James cherish his children, but he was very fond of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
James enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for riding his motorcycle and driving his mustang convertible. He also liked to spend time on the greens, playing a few rounds of golf as often as possible. James found treasure in many different and distinct places, whether he was hunting around garage sales or spending time on his I-Pad.
James, age 74 of Carleton, passed away at 12:43am on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Medilodge of Monroe. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his former spouse: Maria Josefina Garcia in 2008.
To cherish his memory, James leaves his two children: Lisa (Steve) Marie Mehok and Scott (Heather) Stivenson both of Newport; six grandchildren: Paige Mehok, Sierra Mehok, Mercedes (Kaleb) Younker, Faith Stivenson, Breanna Crawford , and Jade Gilstorff; three great grandchildren: Payten Younker, Arianna LaTorre, Aiden Crawford; and a special friend: Sandra Cross.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185 where a 7:00pm Rosary service will be led by Deacon Ken Trabbic. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00am on Friday, November 21, 2014 also at Merkle's with Reverend Louis Lapeyre, Associate Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating.
