Robert "Bob" Preston Smith Jr. March 21, 1956 -November 7, 2014 Robert Preston Smith Jr. was born in Monroe on March 21, 1956. He was one of five boys born form the union of the late Robert P. and Betty (Zerba) Smith Sr. Robert attended Monroe High School later obtaining his GED. Robert spent most of his life in Michigan but spent some time in Tennessee and Kansas City. On July 15, 2002, Robert married the former Deborah Lynn Healey in Monroe. Robert supported his family working at Ford Motor Company. He would serve more than thirty-two years retiring from the Woodhaven Stamping Plant in 2007. Bob loved collecting. His favorite items included Eagles and NASCAR memorabilia. He was an avid Fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Bob loved cars. He built models with the children when they were younger, and was particularly fond of the Red 1997 Pontiac Firebird of which he was privileged to own several throughout his life. Bob's family was his world. He loved going to the campground and spending time around the campfire. Bob adored his grandchildren taking on the responsibility of raising three of them. Although, Bob was not known to be social he was gifted with the Smith hereditary attribute of always being right. Bob, age 58 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at his home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a brother: Danny Smith; and a daughter-in-law: Tammy Healey. To cherish his memory, Robert leaves his loving partner of twenty-five years and wife: Deborah "Debbie" (Healy) Smith of Maybee; children: Dawn (Clay) Hawley of Atwater, Ohio, Robert "Ryan" P. (Kelly) Smith of Youngstown, Ohio, Adam ( Lacey) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Phillip Healey, Clinton Healy, Eric Healey, Lisa Healey, and Jared Dutra; three brothers: Ronald (Laura) Smith, Roy Smith, Doug (Barb) Smith all of Monroe; fifteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews including: Rachel and Doug Smith that he was extremely close to. Friends may gather from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:00pm on Monday, November 10, 2014 also at Merkle's with Reverend Bob Baltrip pastor of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church officiating.
