Royetta Lynn Major was born in Glenhayes, West Virginia on April 18, 1934. She was one of thirteen children born from the union of the late Daniel Boone and Gypsy Jewell (Chapman) Hall. She attended Monroe High School where she met her husband, William Major and they married later in life on September 7, 1991.
For many years, Royetta worked as bartender, enjoying the interaction of customers and serving others. She later took employment as a laborer with an electrical manufacturing company.
Royetta received her spiritual nourishment at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, serving in the Luncheon Commission Ministry.
Royetta and her husband wintered for ten years in Largo, Florida where she made and sold professional quality crafts; Christmas and wedding centerpieces were her specialty.
Royetta had an astounding 180 piece hummingbird figurine collection and a montage of photographs that everyone gave her. She enjoyed spending nights at the casino, gambling and playing the slots. In her quiet time, Royetta appreciated the outdoors bird watching.
Royetta Lynn Major, age 80, of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, October22, 2014 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by three daughters: Norma Leady, Sheryl Goble and Constance Major; two sons: Mark Major and William Major; three sisters: Loretta "Evalue" Champagne, Allene Raye Seitz and Roberta Snavely; two brothers: Glen Hall and Danny Hall; a son-in-law: Robert Kelley; and a granddaughter: Christine Louchart.
To cherish her memory she leaves her loving husband of twenty- three years: William Major; six children: Sheila Kelley, Kathy (Terry) Holt, Sandra Major, Cindy (Joe) Delorenzo, Nicholas (Serena) Major and Jennifer (Bob) Carter; three sisters: Jewel (Don) Horney and Delorse (Delmar) Moore and Cecil "Cec" Wolventon; four brothers:, Phil (Grace) Hall, Bill (Paula) Hall, Ken (Barb) Hall and Gwen (Linda) Hall; and numerous grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am, Friday, October 24, 2014 also at Merkle's with Pastor Roy Southerland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession to Roselawn Memorial Park will follow.
