Agnes Marie Beste
September 24, 1916 - December 20, 2009
Agnes Marie Ternes was born in East Detroit, Michigan on September 24, 1916. Agnes was one of four daughters and five sons born to the union of the late Anthony Ternes and the late Catherine (Young) Ternes. She attended school in the East Detroit area.
Agnes married Leo F. Beste on May 20, 1939, and from this union would come eight children. The young family moved to Carleton in 1947. Agnes ran the greenhouses and assisted with truck gardening. She had participated with the Farm Bureau for many years. She picked cherry tomatoes and cayenne peppers. Her hobbies include canning and she was an avid walker.
Agnes was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carleton. She was also active with the St. Catherine's Guild and the Altar Society. She was passionate about reciting her rosary. At least twice each day for an hour in the morning and an hour at night she would say her Hail Mary's.
Agnes Marie Beste age 93, passed away at 8:04am, Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Elderly Solutions facility where she had been a resident for the past six months. The family had been under the care of Heartland Hospice and Homecare. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband Leo on August 26, 1995, five brothers, and one sister.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her children: Marie (Paul) Maxwell of LaSalle, Leo A. (Betty) Beste of South Rockwood, Dennis (Betty E.) Beste of Carleton, Rosemary (Gene) Richards of Flat Rock, Richard (Denise) Beste of Alaska, Dianne (Robert) Marcero of Brooklyn, David (Margaret) Beste of Carleton, and Robert (Marilyn) Beste of Carleton; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and two sisters.
Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 9:00pm, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, Bennett- Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Erie, Michigan (734) 848-5185 where a rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. She will lie in state from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2996 West Labo Rd in Carleton. Father Robert Bauer pastor of the church will officiate. Her final rest will take place next to her husband at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
