Leaona Davis was born in Logan, West Virginia on December 10, 1940. She was one of twelve children born from the union of the late Tom Davis and the late Nettie Mae (Isaacs) Davis. Leaona attended Wayne High School in West Virginia.
She married Donald G. Bocook, and from this union would come the birth of two children. She served her family as a homemaker being a loving and supportive wife and mother. The young family moved to Michigan in 1970 and made their home in River Rouge. Leaona was a devout Christian and she worshipped her Lord as a member of the River Rouge Freewill Baptist Church. In 2008 after the death of her son she moved to Carleton to stay with her daughter.
Leaona was a woman of many varied interests and talents. She loved remodeling homes and didn't shy away from any projects. She was willing to rip out walls, put in beams, and even poured cement. Leaona enjoyed sewing, often making her own clothes, quilting, and embroidery. More than anything she cherished her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her free time she enjoyed sharing a game of dominoes or Yahtzee.
Leaona, age 73 of Carleton passed away on Wednesday evening, September 17, 2014 at her home. In addition to her parents and her former spouse: Donald; her passing was preceded by a son: Donald Earl Bocook; and ten siblings: Allen, Roy, Jessie, Tom Jr., Ida, Perlina Steele, Glenna, Raymona, Fred Steele, Elouise.
To cherish her memory she leaves a daughter: Tina (James) Crumb of Carleton; a sister: Polly V. (Cecil) Travis of West Virginia; four grandchildren: Raven Osborne, Kevin (Amanda) Osborne, Christopher Osborne (Emily Miller) and Julie Bocook (James Bergman); and six great grandchildren: Makayla, Sean, Cura, Kevin Jr., Serenity, Kylie
Friends may gather from 12:00pm until 1:00pm on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Rollins Funeral Home, 1822 Chestnut Street; Kenova, West Virginia (304) 453-1754. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 1:00pm also at Rollins Funeral Home and procession will follow to Skeens Cemetery for burial. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with Michigan arrangements.
