Obituary of Dan Minton

Dan Minton Jr. was born in Harlan, Kentucky on January 1, 1950. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Dan Minton Sr. and Juanita (Gibson) Minton Poupard. As a young boy the Minton Family moved to Michigan. Dan was a devoted family man, supporting his family by the work of his own hands for more than thirty years as a construction laborer. One of his passions was the labor movement and being a member of Local 465 served his union as past president and executive board member. He married Marsha Richardson on September 14, 1969 and from this union came three children. On, February 7, 1988, he married: Ronda Riggs in Monroe and the couple also had three children. Dan lived life to the fullest cherishing time spent with family and friends. He was a loving, kind, and loyal friend, willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Dan was very social with a knack for telling stories. He had a great sense of humor, and it seemed as if he always provided the comic relief. He was well known as a sharp dresser with perfect hair. A man of strong Christian convictions, he knew the Bible inside and out, and received nourishment at the North Monroe Street Church of God Mountain Assembly. Dan, age 64 of Monroe, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014 at University Hospitals Ann Arbor. In addition to his father: Dan Minton Sr. his passing was preceded by step-father: Milton Poupard and father-in-law: Tom Riggs. To cherish his memory, Dan leaves his beloved wife: Ronda; mother: Juanita Poupard; children: Heidi Polley, Danny (Tina Collingsworth)Minton III, Derick (Blair Solomon) Minton, Dustin (Stacy Rascon) Minton, Ken(Cassie) Polley and Shalyn Bastien; sisters: Jackie Cook, Jo Ann (Tom) Lambert and Terrie (Bob) McKeone; brother: Doug (Shelly) Minton; grandchildren: Jacob Maurer, Drake Minton, Heidi Minton, Dylon Minton, Darika Minton, Dextin Ellison, Dayton Steffy, Jayla Kieth, Michael Polley, Brock Guthrie , Hunter Guthrie and Kai Polley. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 12:00 noon until a Celebration of His Life at 1:00pm; Saturday, September 20 at North Monroe Street Church of God, 2393 North Monroe with Pastor Rick Massingill officiating.
