Elizabeth M. Monhollen was born in Williamsburg, Kentucky on June 19, 1917. She was born from the union of the late Tom Ed and Maud (Vanderpool) Monhollen. She married Dock Lovitt on May 31, 1933.
Elizabeth supported the war effort by working at powder and bomber plants. She later was employed by Union Camp for many years working the line and operating a Hi-Lo.
Elizabeth was an avid reader and was very informed on politics and the stock market. She enjoyed quilting and won many awards for the quality of her work. Family was always extremely important and she was a loving and giving individual. Elizabeth looked forward to playing Friday night Canasta with her family and Monday night quilting lessons for her grandchildren. Each year she made the trek Down South to decorate graves on Memorial Day weekend and visit friends and family. She was known for beautiful gardens and showering others with gifts.
Elizabeth age 93 of Monroe passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at her home. She had been under the care of her loving family. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband: Dock on August 9, 1997, a grandson, a son-in-law: Bill Bates; and a sister: Clara Shelton.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her four children: Sheila (Everett Dave) Kimberlin of Monroe, Maxine (Grover) Cupp of Monroe, Thomas Edward (Joyce) Lovitt of Newnan, Georgia, and Patsy Bates of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Patricia (Ridner) Neal of Monroe, Dave (Diane) Cupp of Monroe, Kenneth (Debbie) Reece of Temperance, Karen (Bill) Conner of Monroe, Rhonda Lovitt of Newnan, Angela (Mark) Evans of Monroe, Michelle (Glen) Nofziger of Monroe, Tom (Jennifer) Lovitt II of Senoia, Georgia; twenty-five great grandchildren; twenty-one great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until a Celebration of Her Life at 7:00pm, Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Friends may also call from 10:00am until a funeral service at 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 31 at Croley Funeral Home, 103 South 2nd Street in Williamsburg (606) 549-1234. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery.
