Linda Lee Burtis
February 1, 1961 - May 3, 2011
Linda Lee Lester was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 1, 1961. She was one of five children born from the union of the late Robert Junior Lester and the late Doris Jean JoAnne (Gattain) Lester. She attended Monroe High School and later earned her GED.
She married Terry Burtis in1978 and from this union came the birth of two children.
Linda graduated from the Michigan College of Beauty. She worked as a hairdresser for more than ten years for several different employers including Mastercuts. She earned her Commercial Driver's License and went to work in the family business alongside her husband. For seven years she drove dump truck as an integral member of Great Lakes Asphalt Paving. Even while working with Great Lakes Linda continued what she loved by cutting hair on the side for many years.
Over the years Linda filled her free time with several hobbies including crafts and painting, shopping, hunting, going Up North, and riding her 4-wheeler. She had a big heart and loved to help others. Linda had a special place in her life for her grandchildren.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory a daughter: Jamie (Troy Carter) Burtis of Monroe; a son: Edward (Amber) Burtis of Monroe; two brothers: Robert (Marcy) Lester of Monroe and Jimmy (Keri) Lester of Texas; two sisters: Shirl (Steve) Hockin of LasVegas, Nevada and Barb (Robert) Goodell of Monroe; four grandchildren that she adored: De'Shawn Burtis of Monroe, Da'Vontay Carter of Monroe, Heavenlee Burtis, and Jetson Burtis all of Monroe; a grandbaby girl on the way; Jessica Lucas and Crystal Ellison both of Monroe whom she raised as her own; a host of nieces and nephews; and a beloved dog: Nike.
Linda Lee Burtis age 50 passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Carleton. Her passing was preceded by her grandparents.
A private Celebration of Her Life was held. Reverend Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiated and cremation has followed. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with her arrangements.
