Edna Clare Johnson
March 4, 1921 - January 13, 2010
Edna Clare Cole was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 4, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Cole and the late Mary (Shanaway) Cole.
Edna married Emery Johnson on March 1, 1941. They made their church home at the North Monroe Street Church of God Mountain Assembly.
Edna had been a volunteer for RSVP performing duties at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center prior to becoming a resident. She was also a member of the Monroe Senior Center and the Mall Walking Club. Edna loved the great outdoors, visiting her church and worshipping her Lord and Savior, and spending time with her beloved family and especially her grandchildren.
Edna Clare Johnson age 88 of Monroe passed from this world at 11:51pm Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Mercy Memorial Nursing Center. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband Emery on April 9, 1997; an infant daughter; and a half-sister: Beulah Mize; a daughter-in-law: Kaye Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son: Ralph (Theresa) Johnson of Monroe; three grandchildren: Tim (Chris) Johnson of Erie, Ken Johnson of LaSalle, and Ralph (Heather) Johnson Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; ten grandchildren: Christopher, Brian, Alissa, T.J., Derek, Stephen, Kayla, Brittany, Leanne, Jordan; and three great grandchildren: Chelsea, Jaxson, Gabriella, Wendy.
Friends may gather from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, Friday, January 15, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00am, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the North Monroe Street Church of God, 2393 North Monroe Street. The Rev. Rick Massingill pastor of the church will officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
