Marilyn Terese Schroeder
(January 16,1950 - April 1, 2010)
Marilyn (Bayne) Schroeder of Monroe, Michigan, was taken from this world by the Lord God on April 1, 2010, passing away in her home with family attending.
Marilyn was born in 1950 in Champaign, IL, daughter of James and Loretta (Schumacher) Bayne, eldest of seven siblings. She received a fine Catholic education at Holy Cross School in Champaign and St. Mary's Academy in Nauvoo, IL. She earned degrees in English at the University of Illinois and Physical Therapy at the University of Toledo.
Marilyn enjoyed a career of over 20 years in physical therapy, helping countless patients regain functionality after injuries, surgeries, and illnesses, working at Mercy Memorial Hospital prior to falling ill in 2008. She served as PT Director from 1992-2008. In her "spare time", she also served as a wedding photographer and as a Special Olympics ski coach.
Marilyn married Alan R. Schroeder of Gibson City, IL in Champaign on May 3, 1969, eventually settling in Monroe in 1974. Together they raised four sons: Joseph (Barbara), Matthew (Colleen), Justin (Teresa), and Colin (Lauren), among whom are found nine beautiful grandchildren. While a woman of great personal balance, her family was always the joy and focus of her life.
Marilyn had many interests including reading, walking, golf, volleyball, skiing, gardening, music, nature photography, and driving her convertible. She also supported several activities at St. Mary's Church.
Having lost her parents previously, Marilyn is survived by her husband and sons, 9 grandchildren, sisters Cathy (Randy Ego) of Arkansas and Lisa (Sam Wilson) of California, brothers Charles of Texas, John (Kate) of North Carolina, Ken (Beth) of Texas, and Robert (Angie) of Wisconsin, aunt Mary McMahon, and uncle Don Schumacher, both of Champaign, Illinois.
Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, April 8, 2010 and from 2:00pm until 8:00pm with a Scripture Service to be held at 7:00pm, Friday, April 9, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am, Saturday, April 10, 2010 St. Mary's Parish, 127 North Monroe Street.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Mercy Memorial Hospital Marilyn Schroeder Wellness Fund (planned walking trail to be named in her honor), Special Olympics, St. Mary's Church, or Holy Cross Church School.
