Obituary of Jerry Cox

Jerry Wayne Cox was born in LeJunior, Kentucky on February 25, 1938. He was the son of the late James Cox and the late Doris (Beach) Cox. Jerry was a handsome man and throughout life he always seemed to have his way with the ladies. Jerry was a very dedicated and intelligent man. He never lost an argument in fact there was no use starting one because in the end Jerry could always prove you wrong. He commanded respect as a Job Superintendent performing Commercial and Industrial Construction projects. Jerry was a so called slave driver to work for, but he had an uncanny ability to finish projects on time. His career spanned many years most of which he held employment with Roth, Wadkins, and Wise in Dearborn. After leaving RWW, Jerry set out on his own forming JW Cox Construction. Jerry enjoyed fishing. He spent time on the Detroit River, in Lake Erie and retired to Cherokee Lake, Tennessee where he lived on a houseboat. He also spent time in Florida. While living there Jerry studied to become a home inspector, but his career was short lived because of declining health. Once becoming homebound Jerry found enjoyment on his computer. Jerry Wayne Cox age 71 passed away at the home of his sister and brother-in-law Janice and James Radabaugh in Newport at 12:30am, Saturday, December 26, 2009. He had been under the care of Heartland Hospice and Homecare. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a son: Jerry Wayne Cox Jr. "Buddy", and a brother: James Andrew Cox. He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter: Cheryl Cox of Dryden, Virginia; a son: James Cox of Canton, Michigan; his stepmother who raised him: Thelma Mullins of Douglasville, Georgia; three sisters: Thelma Lou Budzeika of Dunn, North Carolina, Janice (James) Radbaugh of Newport, and Joan Thomas of Alabama; one brother: Carl Douglas (Arzana) Cox of Douglasville, Georgia; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Ronnie and Robbie Carpenter whom he had a special relationship. According to his wishes no services have been planned and cremation has taken place. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements.
